PRINCIPLE 6 – TRUE SUCCESS REQUIRES BALANCE

At Moxie, we look for what we call “Deep Health”. Deep health involves thriving in all dimensions of your life, not just physical well-being. It’s a “whole-person, whole-life” phenomenon that incorporates:

 

Physical health

  • How our body feels, functions, and performs

 

Mental and cognitive health

  • How well we think, learn, and remember.

  • Our perspective and outlook on the world

  • Our capacity for insight and conscious awareness

  • Our creativity and flexible problem-solving

 

Emotional health

  • Our general mood

  • Feeling a full range of emotions; but also having more positive than negative emotions

  • Recognizing and appropriately expressing emotions

  • Regulating our emotions; being able to respond to emotional challenges in a resilient and productive way

 

Existential / purposeful health

  • Having a deeper “why”

  • Having a strong sense of ourselves and intrinsic self-worth

  • Feeling part of a “bigger picture”, and / or a larger purpose than ourselves alone

 

Relational and social health

  • Connecting and interacting well with others

  • Developing and maintaining authentic, fulfilling relationships

  • Feeling respected, “seen”, valued, and supported by others.

  • Having a sense of “belongingness”

 

Environmental health

  • Being and feeling safe and secure

  • Being and feeling supported by our surroundings

  • Having access to resources (i.e. health care, healthy food) and being able to act in the world

 

When we have some degree of deep health, we can grow, adapt, evolve, and potentially even excel as human beings. At the very least, we have a “life-forward direction” that gives us a sense of vitality and purpose in the world.

 

I don’t want clients to have big muscles but small lives, or clients who “look good” but feel awful inside. I want to help people feel and function well in all aspects of their lives.

 

A healthy, fit body isn’t just about what you eat and how you train (though that’s important). It's also about how you think and feel, and what’s important to you. So, I will also help you build habits that will ensure proper functioning of the body and foster a positive mindset. But there are other important factors that also affect your overall health and wellness, such as your environment, sleep, stress management, lifestyle choices, practicing mindfulness, etc. So, we’ll discuss those too!

 

Most of us end up neglecting certain areas of our lives. Sometimes this is because of poor time management and stress. Sometimes it’s because we rely on memory or willpower to always make the right choices and take the best actions in our daily lives.

 

The power of this interactive experience lies in the self-awareness and self-confidence it creates, which spills over into all areas of your life, igniting transformation. I refer to these areas as your Big Six:

 

  • Physical – Feeling vibrant, energized, and thriving. Performing and functioning well.

  • Emotional – Experiencing a full range of emotions and expressing them appropriately.

  • Environmental – Knowing your everyday surroundings support your health and well-being.

  • Relational – Being connected and authentic with others. Feeling supported and like you “belong.”

  • Existential – Feeling a sense of meaning and purpose in life.

  • Mental – Being alert, focused, competent, and thoughtful. Learning, remembering, and solving problems well.

 

These are the six big areas that mirror back to you whether you are aligned with the best version of you (or not). According to Jim Rohn, author of Leading an Inspired Life, everything affects everything else. Every lack of discipline affects every other discipline. If your health is affected by poor lifestyle choices, this will be reflected in another area of your life as well.

 

A key principle of this Program is that a happy or successful life requires management, care, and improvement in all areas of your life. But as we all know, with our busy lives, this can be quite challenging.

 

Every “failure”, no matter how small, affects the rest of your performance. Success in one area without success in the others leaves you out of balance. On a positive note, every new habit or discipline affects every other discipline. Every new thing you try affects the rest of your performance. It is impossible for one of these areas not to affect the others. Because how you do anything is how you do everything.

 

A successful and well-balanced life is, therefore, an equation with many different parts. Achieving this success and balance requires having a reliable and foolproof system of habits and routines that you can follow each day to improve each area of life, while making sure that no other area is neglected. I have designed this Program to be such a system.
