In last week's blog post, called "Get Off the B.S. Roller Coaster," I touched on seven evidence-based strategies to balance blood sugar. In the second way to balance blood sugar we are focusing on the macronutrient protein.
Protein helps balance blood sugar by slowing down digestion, which also slows the absorption of any carbohydrate-based food you consumed along with it. This lessens the intensity and frequency of the Blood Sugar Roller Coaster.
Too little protein or too much protein can cause intense sugar cravings.
Signs of too little protein include:
· Fatigue or feeling weak
· Hair loss, or a change in its color or texture
· Feeling spacey, jittery, ungrounded, or unfocused
· Extreme belly bloating is associated with severe protein deficiency.
Signs of too much protein include:
· Constipation, because protein is not a fiber-heavy food
· Less efficient kidney function
· Bad breath
· Body odor
· Weight gain
· Feeling tight, stiff, or tense
I like to upgrade my morning coffee by adding a scoop of Collagen Peptides (10 grams of protein). I purchased the Bio Schwartz brand on Amazon. It is a dietary supplement that...
