WHY IS IT CALLED MOXIE REBOOT?
“Reboot” is a term that is often used with computers. It means to reset an operating system back to baseline, so that you force some programs that are not working to quit. You may do this because it’s slow, inefficient, or not functioning properly. On a computer, you reboot it by shutting it down and restarting it, thereby giving the computer’s operating system and software programs a chance to start afresh and function effectively.
The human brain and body are comparable to a computer. We all have a type of internal operating system made up of different “software programs” that run our daily lives. These different programs – our habits, routines and thought patterns – determine our choices and behaviors. These choices and behaviors – conscious or unconscious – ultimately determine our outcomes in life. Sometimes when we are not functioning at our best and the programs in our system are now moving us towards the best version of ourselves, it is time for a “Reboot”.
REBOOT YOUR LIFE
Rebooting ourselves is not as easy as holding down the power button. It involves examining the habits and routines we currently have in place and redesigning them to deliver positive results. It also involves adopting new habits, practices and routines to help us “upgrade” our lives and take us in the direction we want to go.
MY JOURNEY
As a longtime student of personal development, I’ve been endlessly exploring ways to improve myself and optimize the way I live. Along this journey, I often struggled to sustain the positive changes I introduced and was often left feeling overwhelmed when trying to follow unrealistic new routines. Lacking a reliable structure to follow, I often depended too much on mustering the daily motivation and willpower that I needed to make the correct choices and follow the right behaviors to achieve the results I wanted. Although I would make progress in some areas of my life, I often simultaneously neglected others. Resulting in feelings of being unbalanced.
I came to realize, through studying high performers in many different fields, that there is a crucial difference between those who lead healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives and achieve their desired results and success and those who do not. The key difference was that those who were succeeding had reduced, as much as possible, the need for willpower and motivation by systemizing lives with daily habits, routines, and practices that they could easily follow, and which helped them improve and grow every day. They also took a holistic view of what a successful life is and strived for balance, having habits and practices in place to address all the important areas of their lives.
I realized that in order to make real change, I needed a system of sustainable habits and practices that I could put into place which would greatly reduce my need for willpower, decision making, and daily motivation – a system which would also allow me to manage and improve, in a streamlined way, the many different areas of my life, track my progress, and keep me accountable.
After trying many different tools, journals, and apps for habit development and personal growth and feeling unsatisfied with the systems they used, I decided to scratch my own itch and create the system I couldn’t find. The result was the Moxie Reboot.
IDENTITY UPDATE
As our identity or self-image is a key driver of our actions and behaviors, the Program focuses on strategies you can use to ‘Update’ your Identity – to reinforce an Identity that is aligned with a vision of the type of person you want to become. I have created a powerful 3-Step process in Module 3 to guide you in doing this, which includes designing powerful internal mantras or “Identity Statements” to help positively guide your behavior.
15 REBOOT HABITS
After many years of studying the habits and routines of high performers and through my own personal experimentation, I’ve identified some key practices and behaviors that create positive change and growth, and which can ultimately lead to a happier and more successful life. I have distilled what I learned into 15 Reboot Habits that you can implement into your daily and weekly routines which will act as big ‘levers’ of positive change across all the different areas of your life.
Some of these 15 Habits are habits based on actions (Action Habits), and some are mental habits aimed at building your self-awareness (Awareness Habits). Within these 15 Habits, some are habits we do daily (Primary Habits) and some are habits we can do once to a few times a week (Secondary Habits).
LIFE SPHERES
Although there is some natural overlap, I have grouped 14 of these Reboot habits and practices into 3 categories or Life Spheres: Body, Mind & Emotions, and Personal Growth. Each Sphere represents an important area of you and your life which you can improve and manage with these habits. The last habit, Reboot Habit #15, is a standalone “master habit” that can contribute to all these spheres.
